Solving the Riddle

Only the lockers that have a perfect square number will be open when you are finished, which means lockers 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, and 100 will be open. 


Let’s walk through the explanation 

This riddle involves finding a pattern in order to determine which lockers will be open. You can see that only lockers that have an odd number of factors (including 1 and the number itself) will be open at the end, which are perfect squares. Therefore, only lockers 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, and 100 will be open.


Example 1:

We opened all 100 Lockers. Let’s look at Locker number 4. He’ll get closed at “every 2” and get open again at “every 4”. Then, from “every 5,6,7” it remains open.  


Example 2:

We opened all 100 Lockers. Let’s look at Locker number 10. He’ll get closed at “every 2”, open at “every 5” and close again at “every 10”. Then, from “every 11,12,13” it remains closed.
