Solving the Riddle

Ready or not, here we go.

Answer: 17 minutes.

Want to go over the math?  Let’s go.

Step 1:

The two fastest people cross the bridge together, taking 2 minutes (the time it takes the slower person to cross). The fastest person goes back with the flashlight, taking 1 minute.

Current Time: 3 minutes.

Step 2:

The two slowest people, 5 min and 10 min, cross the bridge together, taking 10 minutes.

Current Time: 13 minutes.

Step 3:

The second fastest person (2 min) goes back with the flashlight.

Current Time: 15 minutes.

Last Step:

Finally, the two fastest people cross the bridge together again, taking 2 minutes. Altogether, the crossing takes 2 + 1 + 10 + 2 + 2 = 17 minutes.

Got it the first time or needed to check some alternatives? What a great mind treat.
